REACALL 2015

Sydney Motor Show, Articulate project space.

Materials: cardboard, hand stencilled text,

yellow Honda Jazz car.

Part of a group show, titled Sydney Motor Show at Articulate project space, Parramatta Road Leichhardt. Articulate is housed in a building which for the previous 30 years at least, had served as a smash repair workshop.

Parramatta Road, as Sydney siders know, is famous for its endless string of car sales yards, spare parts shops, and smash repair workshops.

For many years the Sydney Motor Show had been a significant event on the Calendar, but for several years leading up to the show, had ceased to exist. Playing on its absence, the participating artists titled the show, The Motor Show.

Harkening back to the former smash repair workshop,

I borrowed its architecture to create a room sized cardboard box for the snug housing of my yellow Honda car. The new box has been created in response to cardboard boxes for car parts, collected from my local Honda dealer several doors away.

It plays with the architecture, the trade between local businesses along the road, and the held out promise of the shiny new contents of packaged goods. he title, Recall, derives from a letter I received in the mail at the time, requesting recall of the car.

I hand stencilled text in the box, using the

same font found on other car parts packages.
